CANTERBURY MARKETS. (Pin United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, November 17. Carnival week closed down for a timo most of the grain dealers' offices, and business lias hardly yet resumed, but tho conditions previous to tho holidays stilt prevail, with a restricted business. The demand for wheat for coastwise shipment is hardening. Stocks are noiv admittedly low, and holders aro not disposed to soil at ourront prices. One thousand jacks of Hunters havo been sold at- 4s 3d, f.o.b. (sacks extra), and another , line at 4s Id, on trucks at country stations. Tho fooling is strong that stocks will not last till tho new crops, and a rise is expected at an early date. The coat trouble in Australia is calculated to prevent competition in flour from tho Commonwealth, thus further hardening values. There is a slightly better demand for oats, especially hoavy samples for ship, mcnt, but long and discoloured arc not competed for, and prices aro really unchanged. There is 'some inquiry from the .North Island, but ordors havo not been supplied owing to the extremely limited quantity on offer. Potatoes aro in short supply, and prices have risen. lip-10-Dates command £3, and Dements £4, but tho latter arc difficult 10 obtain.
