The Alnidcn Fours have already had a n .1 torat'on, Daw-son replacing Watson, who Jms decided not !o row. The new man Jioukt pvovo a goed substitute, and will, r-o doubt improve considerably under the nblo ooftchr.iu of Mr Falla. By the wnv, ..us o.ub is again fortunate in securing the ewvices of two or three able coaches from f!!nongS„ Its oldest members. The Maiden Double-scullers— Hnridt and Stewart—nave been out regularly. No wat°r is too for Hazlctt, who likes to get out rough or smooth. This is a hard pair, ami should they obtain a good knowledge of sculling it will not be want of oondilicn that will lose them the race. Stroke is at present showing the best stylo In a week or tv.'c Mr Scolon will begin to look for some return for his labours. I hav6 not heard whether there arc any ladies from this club willing to row oil Boxing Day. I bslieve there is to bo a race for ladies, and it is likely to bo held in pair-oar dinyeys this time, the boat 3 to be approved of by the committee. Here is a chance for Bart Provo and his girls. The veteran has not been down so much

Ihi.; season. He is troubled with rheumatism, ivlii™ prevents him from talcing as active a part in rowing as ho would like. No doubt,' however, when ho hears about a ladies' lsce lie will - put. in an appearonce and get the girls practising. Bowing and sailing are a sport in common with olio another, and the two always make a very successful regatta at Port Chalmers on Boxing Day. Why not at- Broad Bay oti New Year's Day? I think it about time that the Broad - Bay Regatta Committee put oil two or three races for rowing men. lam sure they would get good on ; tries. I hopo my suggestion will not bo forgotten.

The Port Regatta Committee has deckled not to hold a professional sculling race on Boxing Day. It is supposed that the "ap : pearance" and prize money required by tho "big guns'' was too much, and tho com mittee wisely decided not to entertain tho thought of it. The local clubs will not I* sorry to hear of their decision, as there was always the chance (with such a race in our waters) of some of their best, amateurs going over to tho professional ranis.

The Oamaru Club evidently had ft soft thing on this year against their old rivals from Timaru, Smith's crew winning comfortably by seme four lengths. Tiro Ownanuians must be showing good form this year, and should make some of tho local crews move on Boxing Day. It is expected that tlioy will enter for the senior race this year.

The decision of the Port Committee to increase tho Senior Fours prize money to £20, £5, and £1 in the event of an outsido crew (Timaru and Invercargill to bo reckoned outsiders) competing should draw our southern friends un again, and will likely entice <i crow from Christ-church. Last year Invercargill came up and won both Senior Fours and Paiis, although the Ojago Club had their revenge later on at Waihok and Queenstown.

An esteemed correspondent forwards the following particulars of the senior and youths' ra:es between Oamaru and Timaru, which took place last week;— From a good start Oamaru soon had half a length to the good. Timaru were rowing 40 to tho minute, while Oamaru rowed 42, At the turn_ Oamaru still had the advantage, and on the home run gave a splendid exhibition of goal clean rowing. Half-way down the homo rim Oamaru led by scvoral lengths. J, Smith, tile stroke, however, slackened his men down about 100 "yards from home, and paddled in an easy winner by four lengths. In tho youths' race both crews kept well together until tho turn was reached, where tho Oamaru crew showed to be slightly in the lead. On the run homo Timaru gained on tho Oamaru crew, and looked very like winning. Their effort, however, was not sustained, and when Moss (the Oamaru stroke) was about 100 yards from tho winning post lie called on his men for a sprint. The Timaru crew gradually fell away, and suffered defeat by jibout a length.
