TAPANUI POULTRY SHOW

, Tim Titpauui poultry show, held on ' •Ntlurduy last, was favoured with splendid 1 weather, tlio .lay boir.y bright and sunny, 1 «her a sharp frust. Tlio exhibition was Ihe 1 tvveiity-lnsli hold by U, e society, but it was. " probanly tlio most disappointing that the (| management has experienced. Tlio priy.3 .schedule was much the same as in past; JMI'S and there was a liberal list of ! specials. The onirics, however, did not. ■ come up to expectations, about 100 coons iKXOiiimotlating all that came forward. Tlio absence of two large exhibitors in previous i years (Messrs Tracey King; and John Camp- [ boll) niiulo u coiisitlora.blo (liilY-TCHce, and , many others also appear to have tired of .. . poultry-rearing lur show purposes, whilst no new ones earns forward. Of the ex- ' Inbits forward, however, the judge classcd . , niein as of good average quality. Game ] , was not represented, and banlanis" have also i gone out of fashion, hi the Plymouth Hock ; pons Mr I'. 11. Jones (Waipahi) had some | . yood birds, the pick of which was the , prize pullet, with the right class of barring, j but v,-ealc in typo. There was nolhiug . worthy of special mention in the Minorcas. Amlalusiain made a good display. Thefir.it ! prize pullet; was specially coinnieuded by _ the judge, being of true colour and carry- . nig nice lacing; whilst the winning , cockerel was specially strong in ground colour and lacing, although deficient in typo ami rather much like a Leghorn. In , Mr W. M'Konzin (Dnnedin) i ] famed the award with a hen of good colour and typo, and Mr W. Ilenrv's (Sawyers' , ; Bay) prize cock was also a Soo d bird, with J it nice headpiece, although rather high on his legs for the judge's fancy. The only brown Leghorn cock shown was worthy of special mention, being of good substance and colour, hut deficient in stripe and hackle. Two pullets shown were good, both in type and colour. Mr A. Mmi- •" yard had a few of the old favourite light J iirahmas forward, the pick of which was 1 the winning hen. Wyandotte* brought our 1 tile best bird in the show—Mr 31. Cramer's S (Gore) golden cock,-a bird of very rich golden colour, fnir l>re;isl, and good . • bars. There were t few good ones amongst ' Mr Robertson's white Wyandoites, and tlio > winning cock, though small, was a bird of ' good typo and colour, the same applying ; to the lirst pullet, although the latter was . also on the smalt side. In Humburgs ?>ir J. U. Shull's (3lilton) silver-spangled cock ■ • was specially prominent, and the same exhibitor's cockerel was also a good one. Mr . L. G. Bii'knor (Port Chalmers) gained four " out. of the six awards in Orpingtons, there being little competition, ami the Port birds ' were well shown and nice specimens. Ducks, cage birds, etc., made a poor display, and there was nothing calling for special mention. The altowlsneo of I lie public, _ considering; the weather, was also disappointing, and only a small number ' patronised the show during the afternoon and evening. The derail work and general arrangements were, as usual, carried out in the most complete style hv the secretary (Mr A. Mnnyard), and it was due to 110 , fault of his thai there was not. a better exhibition. The few enthusiasts bent on keeping such a useful institution in existence mean lo endeavour to introduce some fresh a.tirnttions l'w ncxl year, and no . doubt poultry breeding will revive, and again become popular. Mr George Double (of Invercargill) acted as judge, and gave the greatest satisfac|d lion. j. The following is the prize-list:— id Bantam.—Hen. black-led (one entrv) —A. Vcod (Balcluthii).
