WELLINGTON, February 11,
The City Council to-night adopted the Finance Committee's u'commendation that ill future biograph co.-iceit-s 'be not, permitted in any building in Wellington on Sundays. This does not alfrct the holding of sacred coucerU, as at present authorised in the Town Hull.
The city loan proposal to borrow £208,000 for various works was submitted to the electors to-day. An extraordinary lack of interest was shown, less than 2000 ratepayers going to the poll, out of about 13.000 011 tho roll. All the proposals woio rejected, except- two ii.fi'ectiutj suburban areas—namely, the construction of a tramway to Wadestown (£40.000), and a. water supply to Northland and Wadestown (£22,550). Amongst the rejected items wa-s 11 vote of £27,555 for the erection of workmen's homes.
Work on the temporary building in Government House grounds for the Legislative Council will be begun this week. Itwill not- bs an ornamental structure, strict utilitarian principles being adhered to, but t.he chamber will 1.13 very comfortable. Its cost will not- exceed £2000, and the work is being carried out by the Public Works Department..
