The defender was tho Victoriaii yacht. Snyonara, and the challenger t in' TheJmii, of Sydney. At the start a, nice whole-sail southwustc.rlv breeze sprang up. The Thelma was first over the line, but tho Snyonara, shooting up on (he windward berth, got ail excellent start. Tho wind fresheninu. tho Tholma gave a fine exhibition of her sailing qualities, moving kiblot than Ihe Savonara. As the eastern shore was approached, the wind was alternately Equally ami liglil. The Tlu?lma. just held her own on the port, fiick, but gained on ■her rival on tho starboard, tack. Thus the race was fought out lo the windward mark, where tho Sayonara had the advantage.' She made tho buoy, but the Thelma missed, and had to mako a short beat to get- round, the Sayonara. being a. minute to tho good at this point. The Savonara. was quick ill hoisting he.r spinnaker, but «li« could not. break tho sail out. The Tholma. wa.s slower in sotting her kites, Ijilt did so without, any mistake. She overtook tho Siiyonara, and obtained ;i good lead. The Thelma kept her position sill the way home, although, if anything, tho Sayoniirit decreased tho lead which she had given her opponent through her trouble with her kite, The Thelnni won by Itisec.
