WAIKOUAITI NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) ''" WAIKOUAITI, November 30'. • The heavy vote recorded at Waikouaiti at the second ballot was something of a surprise, and Mr E. 11. Clark is indebted to his committee, which worked very enthusiastically in' bringing tho electors out to vote. A large number of vehicles were engaged, and almost every house in tho district was visited during tho day, with the result that the vote was slightly heavier than that recorded at the .first'poll. Mr Olark paid a visit to Waikouaiti on Thursday, and was heartily congratulated on all hands upon his success. On Friday last Mr Ward, manager i>f the Morton creamery, succeeded ing a 121b|salmon trout in tho Waikouaiti River 1 close to the Main road bridge: Tho fish, which was on view at the creamery on Saturday, was a lino specimen..in good, condition, and was much admired, In anticipation of a 'argc influx of visitors during the summer' holiday*, a number of the local boarding-houses have bsen recently enlarged and thoroughly renovated, and intending visitors can' rely upon getting satisfactory accommodation. Waikouaiti appears to be becoming year by year increasingly popular as a summer, resort. ■->•.' Saturday's rain was very acceptable to the farmers, who were getting . rather anxious regarding their winter'feed. A good deal more moisture is, however, required, as the ground is still very dry and hard. Vegetables are doing very well this year, and locally.grpwn peas and early potatoes are now in use. '
