The German Consul-general characterises the suggestion that Germany might be 'glad to annex New Caledonia as a senseless anti-German utterance. Germany had all the territory she wanted in the South Seas,- and she liad no more notion of attempting to acquire New Caledonia than France had of making her a present of it.
