ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
(Per United Press Assocutiok.) WELLINGTON, November 23. A tramway conductor named William Lovers, a married man, aged 28 years, was caught between two cars at the Newtown sheds this afternoon, and had his right leg so severely smashed that it had to be amputated at the thigh. BLENHEIM, November' 23. Michael Higgins, son of a well-known farmer of this district, dropped dead this morning, apparently from heart disease. ASHBURTON, November 23. Roger Keane, single, aged. 57, a labourer, was found dead in his hut near Mount Somers this morning. He had been in indifferent health for some time. He has no relations here, but is supposed to have a brother at Waihi. TIMARU, November 23. t The wife of the Rev. J. K. Barklie, of Geraldine, died last night from injuries received through being thrown out of a gig on Saturday afternoon.
A young lady met with an unpleasant mishap on Sunday afternoon whilst cycling along the Deborah Ba,y v . road. Losing control of her machine, she fell over the bank into deep water, and might have fared very seriously had not some ladies who witnessed the mishap promptly ran to her assistance. After some dim\ cully they succeeded in getting her out of the water. Some little time afterwards she was able to proceed home, and quickly recovered from the effects of I her immersion.
