FIRE BRIGADE COMPETITION

On Saturday afternoon the Hitlsido Workshops Fire Brigade hold a competition, for medals donated by fcbo brigade and to select a team to represent the brigaSc at the demonstration to be held, at Auokland in March. Nino members competed to demonstrate their fitiiess to bo included in the team,' and, incidentally, to win a medal if possible. The event'chosen,for the runoff was the one-man hose, hydrant and union (man to run sjxls, pick iip hydrant, run 20yds to phig, plant hydrant, couplo two leads to hydrant, run oira out, fix branch, insert union, run out one coil fix two branohes, and finish sy<ls past branches; best two runs out of three to count):—Fire'man A. Dcnnison, 94 $ssec, 6/ Th© afternoon's display was well up to the standard, and from appearances the team should givo a good account of itself at the demonstration. The official duties for the afternoon were undertaken by Oaptoin Wilkins (Hillside Fire Brigade), starter; Deputy Superintendent Salmon (City Fire Brigade) timekeeper; Captain Prioo (South Duncdiuj and W. Ros6, judges. Light refreshments woro dispensed ilurig the afternoon. Captain Wilkins, on Tohalf of the brigade, thanked the various officials for their assistance during the afternoon, and said that the medals would be presented at a smoko concert to be held later oh. The annual inspection of the brigade by Superintendent Mitchell will take place Ihis week.
