Amongst the representative visitors wore the Hon. J. A. Millar, Mr T. K. Sidey (Cavoreham), Mr W. Austin (Dunedin), Messrs J. C. Stephens and C. T. Paterson (Kaituna), 11. M. Henderson (Caledonian), W. Carswcll (Taieri), P. C. Corliss (Otago), and others; The President (Mr .1. B. Dick), in declaring the green open, read a telegram from Mr T. S. Culling (Auckland), wishing the club a prosperous and enjoyable season. Mrs Dick rolled the first bowl .amidst applause and choers. An oight-riji-k game was then played, resulting fn a win for the. Proskknt by a narrow margin. The green played exceedingly well, and reflected credit on the grcenkecper (Mr Mc-reer), who also deserved praiss for the flower beds and surroundings looking their beat. At the conclusion of the game, the Hon. J. A. Millar and Mr J. C. Stephens gave brief speeches suitable to the occasion. Cheers were heartily given for' the orchestra (organised by Messrs Fothcrgill and Brundell), which rendered sweet music during the afternoon, and also for tho lao/ies who, as usual, did their part faithfully andl to the satisfaction of all. The opening, daywas a complete success, and ausrw-6 well for a prosperous season, at St. Kilda. The official opening for the season of tho Balmaoowen Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet Chib took place on Saturday under most auspicious circumstances, tho weather being perfect. There _ was an attendance of about 300, the ladies turning out in erajifying numbers, and, gowned in their summer costumes, lent variety and pieturosqucness to the scene. Mr Peter Duncan opened proceedings by congratulating Mr 0. Balk on Iris return from his trip to th« Homeland and Europe, and on his having been elected president of the club during his al:sencc. Mr Balk, in happy vein, replied, thanking, the members of the club for honouring him by elcctins him to the presidentship. Though he had recently been some thousands of milts away from them, ho had not forgotten thorn, and said that the mo?t pleasant feature of his trip was bis return to the oldi place, and seeing th« old faces again. Fraser, a member of the council of tho Bowling Association, was also present. Apologies were received from Mr .1. M. Galla way (vice-president of the Howling Association) and Mr J. J. Marlow (chairman of the' Dunedin - Centre). Mrs Bulk-, having rolled' the first ball of Iho day, the annual match, President v. Vice-presidents, was commenced,'while Ihe tennis and croquet sections of the club .also started in full force, and all the participants thoroughly enjoyed themselves,'the.visitors being- well satisfied! with liie green.
