Mr M'Kinlay, who made the presentation, after referring to the good feeling existing between" Mr -UKay and _ fellow-employees, and their nigh estimation of him during his many ycara amongst them, wished Jiim sucoe« or the future. Mr M'Kay thanked them tor their gift and their eulogistic ■expressions an« good wishes.
. Tho mem-bow of the Port Chalmers Rowing Club mot in tho boatshed last evening to tender a social evening to tho president, Mr F. W. Platte, who is shortly to be married. During tie course of the evening Mr R. Bauehop. on behalf of the club, presented Mr Platts with a pair of handsome Jepane.se palm stands as a token of esteem, ?nd wished the recipont every ■happiness in connection with his retirement from, bachelordom. Mr Platte acknowledged the gifts in a folicitous speech, and thanked Olio donors for their kind expressions of goodwill. Advantage was also taken of tho occasion to present Mr W, T. Brailev (thp late secretary) with a brush rack and mirror as a memento of his connection with the club, and Mr R. Smith was also presented with a gold medal in recognition of his services as coxswain.
