THE LICENSING POLL.

TIIE DUXEDLY DIFFICULTY. (From Ova Own Corrf.sfondzkt.) WELLINGTON, October 30. The Rev. J. Dawson, speaking to a Dominion reporter iu rrkrence to the difficulty which has been raised in connection with the coming licencing poll nt Dunedin, j-aid that ho was with Mr A. S'. Adams when that gentleman laid the matter before the Hon. Dr Findlay. Mr Adams was yen- much concerned about the difficulty, which had engaged bis attention for some time, and the Nolicense party placed great- confidence in his knowledge oil all rubjects relating to the legal side of their movement. The fear that the Duiiedln poll might bo invalidated was all tho more pressing on account of the fact thai, the prospects in that- city were considered very hopeful from the no-license point- of view. Air Dawson said he was there a few days ago, and found that Ihe campaign was being very actively conducted on both sides. Hie Early Settlers' Hall was crowded at meeting after meeting held by the No-license party, and tihe atmcspnere was electrical. The no-license leaders were always on the alert (continued Air Dawson) to forestall, jf possible, any (law in legislation or procedure, because if any informality was discovered niter a poll it always meant the continuance oi selling liquor till the point Wi!'« sett-led.

lie added that the difficulty fniggosted by Mr Adams applied only lo Dunedin, as llie names of the electorates forming the ol!:.er city licensing districts had notbeen changcd. Thus, the Wellington licensing district consists of Wellington North, Wellington Central, and Wellington East, as it. dfd three years ago (though the boundaries have been slightly altered). Xcwtown lias become Wellington South, but- is, of course, a separate licensing district, as before. Air Adams also said that the no-license leaders wero anxious to sec the Gazette notice, which will shew iu what form the issues are to'be submitted at the polls in districts which are now (owing to the olianses in boundaries) partially under no-license.
