THE TUAPEKA ELECTION.

Sin.—ln your issue of the 26tli inst.. it is reported that at a meeting hold in St. Uiithans a resolution, proposed by myself, thanking Mr 11.1'., for what lie had obtained for the district was received with derkion. My resolution, which was seconded by Mr M'Carthy, was as follows:—"That this meeting, while according Dr Chappie a- vote of thanks for his address', tJiaukU Mr Macphcrson (or past eervicES rendered, and considers that tho action of tho Hon. Sir .1, (j, Ward (our Prime Minister) and his Ministers in selecting Mr Macpiierson ;ts the (iovormnent candidate is consistent with the best interests of the humanitarian and progressive legislation of tho Liberal party; and also ask; Dr Chappie to defend himself against the alleged clundcrous statements published in Truth." Tho latter part of my resolution was not properly understood, as few of tho electors present, at the meeting vcic aware of tho statements referred to. I am confident that the electors of St. Bathans will at the poll, by casting their votes for Mr Macpiierson, show who merits praise or derision.—l am, etc., Nkil Nicolson. St. Batlians, October 26.
