Slit, —I am absolutely astonished at the Rev. Mr Hastie's conduct. I invited him to como to my office, and lie agreed to do so on, Thursday morning at half past 11, when I was going to show him the whole of (ho official reports for the towns of Maine which I mentioned. Mr Hastie did not come, for the very good reason that Mr Hastie knows quite well that the figures are true, and ho ices not wish to see the truth. When a man in Mr Hastie's position agrees, ho ought, as a gentleman, to kcer. his arrangements. 1 wish to say no more.—l am, etc., Thomson'.
