THE TRUE TALE OF THE PRENATAL TAIL.
A REPLY TO THE REV. -I. CHRISTIE. Bv the Lecturer. One evening a few weeks ago. A lecturer, in a hall below A cluirch in Moray place, Exhibited a lantern slide Which showed as plain as photo can The tail of embryonic man. This tail, 'tis true, is very wee, Yet this'and many other things Common to you and mo and kings, Show kinship with the Chimpanzee. The Reverend Mr Christie pounces Upon this statement and denounces Tho speaker as a wilful mar. A letter to the Times he writes, Komiiading us of former fig.hls Against the cvolutionites. Absurdly Mr Christie hopes, By calling facts of science "lies" To stifle knowledge, as the Popes Havo dono in former centuries. Tho Reverend Christie says his tail Was not a tail at all, But merely an "appearance Of the column vertebral." Precisely what he moans is vague Nor do we care to know, For when the truth men wander from Amuek they madly go. I trust that, ho will pardon me For ending with this " tu quoquc."
