In presenting the twenty-third annual report thn committee says it considered it a first and paramount duty to return its sincere thanks to all who have in any way, whether at the annual appeal or during to? year, supplied the nocesiwy funds and goods that have enabled it to do so much necessary work. During tho year the work of St. Vincent do Paul has not been allowed to relax, *v«Ty-. thing possible, has been done to alleviate tta wnuls of poor people and render their condition more endurable whenever brought under the committee's notice. Our charity (s«y the committee) is not confined to the Catholic poor alone. All', irrespective of crC-sd, reeeivo who by misfortune require the society's help. Messrs Callan suul Otvllaway, Dr O'Neil, Dr Hastings, Mr Cununings (of the Patients and Prisoners' Aid Society), Mm Ausell (secretary of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children), Adjutant Duff, U.S.S. Company, Huddttrt-Parkcr Company, police authorities, and subscribing members. General Summary.—Forty meetings were held; 10 children sent to St. Mary's (Nolson), seven girls to St. Vincent do Paul (South Dunedin), eight women to Mount Magdala, ono girl to friends in Auckland, ono girl to friends on the West Coast, five infants were sent to the Karitano Home. The society has had 11 children baptiscdi. Sixty grocery ordors were given out and Gl ooal orders. A great quantity of made-up clothing has been 'distributed, 15 pairs of now boots, 113 yards flannelette, 30 yards flannel, 82 yards dress material, 0 pairs blankets, etc. ite society has 120 honorary members and nine active members, The balance sheet shows tho receipts (including balance of JEB -Is 7d from last year) to have been £16t 12s 9d, and the expenditure . left a balanco on hand of £41 lis 6d.
