N«w Zealanders bom to have preference. ' Age.—ls and under 17. Eduoation.-Possed Sixth Standard or its equivalent. HeaVth.-Medical certificate of 'sound Health, and pass company's test by company s examiner. Character.-Two certificates, one of whioh i to be by clergyman, or applicant's school ' teacner, or justice of the peace. .Perm of Service—lndentures to be signed for four years. Parents' Consent-Application to be made by parents or guardians, or with their consent, and if candidate accepted, undertaking to bo given that he will give four year's service. Prenrium.-£SC, portion of which will be returned as pay. AH or portion of the premium to be forfeited if cadet deserts or faiia to carry out tho term of his indenture, or is withdrawn for insufficient reason. Pay.—First year, £3 per annum; second year, £0; third year, £9; fourth year, £12. Uniform.—To be supplied by parents or guardians, and always to be worn on board when required by the regulations, and when on leave. Holidays.—Ten days yearly when practicable; a tree saloon pass to home port; parents oi guardians to be responsible for ' apprenticed cadets from.time of leaving to time of rejoining ship. ' Tuition.—ln seamanship navigation, anilmaking, wire-splicing, stropping blocks, rowing, sailing, swinnning. and other physical exercises. During third and fourth years of service, apprenticed cadets to attend ambulance classes while in port and pass examination required by Board of Trade for masters and officers. During the same years of service tuition may be given in mathematics, bookkeeping, and other branches of commercial education. Accommodation.—To be berthed cither in ~ bunks oi hammocks in compartments i accommodating four to six apprenticed ' endcte; room to be.set apart for mess room and for study and recreation. Picket Money.—Parents or guardians desirous of providing pocket money for apprentice cadets, to hand same to the captain, to bo given to the apprenticed cadets at his discretion.
