OCEAN ACCIDENT CORPORATION.

NEW, MANAGER'S WELCOME.

Mr John Bowden, who has just been appointed local manager of the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporation, mot a number of representatives of tho other insurance offices in a social gathering on Wednesday.Mr Bowden explained that ho had issued the invitations so that ho might have an opportunity of renewinjf'old friendships and making new ones. He had been received very kindly by insurance men here, and he assured them that it was a pleasure to return after years of absence and find so many old comrades in business still here. Ho could say without egotism that he had the knacki of getting on with most people, and he was not aware of .having made an enemy in Dunediu or elsewhere.

Mr James Richardson, representing the Alias office, in proposing Mr Bowden's health, said that those who had known that gentloman for any length of time must be fully aware of his business capabilities, and of the courtesy that went hand in hand with them. Ho (the speaker had been associated with Mr Bowden in insurance matters for many years, and had watched his career; and he felt sure that '.Mr Bowdon would make a complete success of the undertaking he had now in hajid. Ho was Buro they would all join in wishing Mr Lowden health and' prosperity and overy good they could wish a. brother underwriter though perhaps not engaged in the same line as themselves.

In responding, Mr Bowden said he had hoped to settle down in Wellington, as he had dono more knocking about than most of thoso present, having gone fromcompauy to company through New Zealand. It was not necessary for him to go into the circumstances leading to the establishment of a branch of the company here, but, that being decided on, ho was' appointed manager, and in that capacity he promised that so far as the company was concerned everything would be run straightforwardly and in a correct manner. Mr Bowden read a telegram from Mr Montefiore, general manager in New Zealand of the company, announcing that ho hoped to he transacting- fis% business almost .immediately.
