WELLINGTON, July 30. Vigorous methods are being adopted by the authorities to prevent opium from being smuggled into New Zealand. When l.lie Moeraki arrived from Sydney yesterday she was hollxlcd by tho Customs officials, and closely searched, but no opium was discovered. Two stewards belonging to tho steamer Moatia—Joseph Haslclt and Joseph Scottwere arrested to-night, and will he charged at the court in. the morning with having opium suitable for smoking in their possession.
