Hie height of Hie river was 6ft 4in above tho normal mark at Alexandra yesterday after a hard frost Tho Alexandra Lead dredgemaster reports as follows for tho week ended July 25: —"I have to report that the bottom is still keeping hard, with patches of clay. Tiie height of the face above water level 19 40ft, and below 30ft, I have had to replace tho elevator driving gear owing to tho wheel being worn out, and tun obliged to do somo necessary repairs which ' will probably take up to Thursday morning, when dredjrinjf will bo resumed. There will therefore be no wash-up this week." It was reported to the Exchange yesterday that the Talisman Consolidated' Company had declared another dividend of Is 3d, payable on August 25. The Rise and Shine No. 1 dredge worked Bft of a cut 480 ft wide and from 42ft to 46ft deep last week. There was no change in the appearance of the .ground No. 2 dredge worked 12ft ahead on a cut of 400 ft, with a depth of from 38ft to 42ft. Smelting operations have been commenced at the Maoriland Copper Company's works at Aniseed Valley, (several "watts" having been run successfully. At a mooting of representatives of Thames mining companies to-day tho following resolution was carried:—" That, in the opinion of this meeting, it is desirable that an effort bo made to open up the Thames deep levels, and that a committee be appointed to collect the necessary information, devise a basis of contributions by the companies interested, and formulate a 6cheme of operations under expert advice." The meeting appointed the chairmen of the companies interested to form tho committee.
