J'hs Secretary of Iho hoard (Mr G. A. hslher) said, in accordance with instructions received, he had the honour lo supply information in connection with Mr Fothergdl's letter of the 6th inst. The engineer, in fulfilment of his instructions, submitted, on December 10, a detailed scht-mo, with full plans and estimates, for the disposal of the sewage of St. Kilda by a gravitation scheme, and had further, lo enable Ae board to havo full information on the subject before committing itself to such an important work, and to so large an expenditure, supplied to tho owners of the Shone patents all Ihe information necessary lo enable them to quote for'an installation of thoir system. In respect to the railway dilth, the most, objectionable portion had been piped, at a cost of £109 12 s 6d, and to relievo the remainder v.~e had been made of the tide to flush the polluted waters into (he pumping-station well. This work occupied 12 hours in every week. For the financial year ending .March 31. 1908, the revenue was less than- £320, and tho direct revenue expenditure was: Decking New and Driver street ditches, £401 18s 2d, which, subtracting £150 Ik 3d, less St. Hilda's contribution, made £251 6s lid; cleaning and maintenance, of St. Kilda. ditches, £67 5s sd; sower cleaning, £11 lis 4d: repairing sewere, £26 Is 7d; attending tide gate. £31 12s 6d: cleansing and repairing drains, eay, £16 iss sd;-tdtal, £434 13s 2d. St. Kilda should bear its proportion of the following items:—Pumping station maintenance, £W3 IBs Sd; standing charges, £1463 Is Cd; interest, £9641 8s lOd; Forbury storm-water aqueduct, £15 13s 9d. There was nho an item in dispute of £30 per annum, which St. Kilda claimed for work done to side ditches on behalf of the beard.
