ROWING.

By Stroke.

REGATTA FIXTURES: Fort Chalmers.—March 23. Napier (Championship).—March 23.

lhr, past week has been a good one for rowing, and those Olago crews who rowed at lnvercargill Regatta had good water for their final training sprints. All the crews travelled to lnvercargill by ~f U M yS n exprcsß ' T l ' l * a number oi the Port Chalmers rowing men mnkintr the trip. Their Junior lour has much improved during the last few clays, and the .Seniors are also in good form and rowing well. At the last minute Glengarry too* (Jiarke's place on No. 2 seat, and this considerably strengthened the crew. Port entered for every race on (he programme, and the club J3 to be conKratulated on its splen'did entries, which nil, a , ppi ' ociatotl ty 01 "' southern friends. ine Northend Senior crew seem to be doomed to disappointment as regards their southern fixtures. They journeyed to the ■Bluff at New Year, but did not get a row, as the bad weather prevented the regatta tailing place. The Queen's Drive Ciub has at last opened iti doors, a s 1 noticed several crews out one or two nights last week. It is to be hoped that some of the younger members are at last beginning to think that they should do a bit of practice in view of tne forthcoming Port regatta. If the young oneti will only come. out and practise, the older oneswill only bo too pleased to do some coaching, and perhaps take seats themselves.

Th<j D.A.B.C. crews are still training! away steadily at tho Otago shed. Their Youths and the Maiden Pairs are still veryrough, but are gradually improving. No. 6 in the Youths lias a lunge at the finish and doubles over his oar. He should remember to swing straight back, steadying the booy with the straps, and keeping his head up. ( The Maiden tf>airs want a little more confidence in their boat. They seem a bit atraici of her. They should throw tho shoulders on directly they feel the water and tear the blades through. The Otago Club's crews are sticking steadily to work, and are slowly improving. ..Tho No. 1 Maiden sculling crew are rowing nicely together, and getting good combination, while bow's time in tho No. 2 crew has greatly improved. The Maiden Fours arc rowing much better also. No. 2, however, is inclined to row a bit deep. Slroke shows much improved form. j Tho Junior Fours have not yet made a •proper start, having been a little unfortunate with their No. 2 (Mill!), who now finds he is unable to row owing to business. Morice, who rowed in the crew on Boxing Day, has come back into the crew, so that tho crow now stands: Stevens, Kerr, Morioc, Patterson. No. 3 has arrived back from Wanganui, but as stroke and bow are rowing,' in the Maiden and Junior' Pairs at lnvercargill this week, the crow will not get together until the end of the week. Mr Kirkchidy will look after their interests, arid ho will, without doubt, get the best work possible out of the men.

The Qucenstown residents are still working hard towards the holding of a regatta there on Easter Saturday. G. G. Denniston, who was last year a prominent member of the Otago Olub, is working hard towards making the regatta a success, and he hopes to get support from all Dunedin and InvercargiH clubs.
