Company (London) today cabled the following report' as to the frozen meat mnrket:—"Canterbury mutton, 4Jd; Napier, Wellington, and North Island. 33d. STOCK SALE AT GISBORNE. (Psa United Prbsb Association.) Record prices wero made in' the saleyards to-day. Thirty shillings -was paid for 69 big-framed Romnoy ewes, with 72 lambs at foot, the latter in good condition and almost ready for tho butcher. A line of 40 Lincoln wethers sold at 27s 3d. Both prices are xccords for tho yards.

HIDE SALES. MELBOURNE, October 3. (Received Oct. !j, at 11.32 p.m.)' At tire hide sa'es medium and goodcondition hides were very firm, but kips and stored Eorts were dull, Messrs A, Moritzson and Co. report as follows:—Wo held our usual fortnightly sale of hides at our stores on Thursday, when we submitted to a full attendance of buyers a large catalogue of hides, comprising heavy, medium, and light, also a large, catalogue of calfskins. Prices were well maintained with the exception of light hides and calfskins. Wo quote: Ox—Prime stout heavy, 6d to GJd; good heavy, 5Jd to Cd; medium, to 4jd; light-weights, 3Jd to 4d. Cows — Heavy. 4Jd to 43d; medium., 4d to l|d; light, 3id to -Id; yearlings, 31d to 3Jd per lb; cnjfskins, Is to 4s each. jfessrs Donald Reid and Co. (Ltd.) report:—Our usual fortnightly sale of hides was held at our stores on Thursday, when wo submitted a large catalogue, made up almost entirely of medium weight ox and cow hides of fair quality. For heavy ■ox of good quality tile demand was good, and prices for this class of hides 'vVCTC on » par with those lately ruling. Many of tho hides wcro sent forward in a soiled and dirty condition, and showed great carelessness on the part of the flayors. For these there was but little demand and low prices, which were from par to $d per lb lower. For any hides put forward in a clean condition there was fair competition, at the following ; prices:— Extra stout heavy ox, s}d to BJd'per lb; medium. 5d to s}d; light, 3Jd to 4Jd; heavy cow, 4Jd to 4Jd; medium, 4d to 4Jd; light, 3}d to 35d; yearlings, 3Jd to 45d; calf skins, to 4s; horse hides, to 6s Gd. Messrs Wright, Stephouson, and ,Co. (Ltd.) report as follows.—We held our usual fortnightly fale on Thursday in our stores, when jve offered a catalogue of 581 hides, comprising 833 ox hides, 160 cow hides, 75 calf skins, and 13 yearlings. Bidding was keen for all well-conditioned hides, prime stout heavy ox showing an advance on late rates. In this class we obtained the fine price of BJd (a record for somo time past) for one weighing 791b,. which .gives a gross return of £2 12s 4d. Light and medium hides also advanced Jd to }d per lb; but yearlings declined fully Jd. Sheety and poor-condi-tioned stuff is not wanted, except at very low rates.
