Oiago Club.—There was a largo gathering at tho club on Saturday evening last, a number of visitors helping to swell the number. Everyone seemed in a holiday humour, and' n pleasant evening was spent- by all. Otago Championship.—Play in this event was continued last Saturday evening, but not much advance was made. Tho second gamo between Mefsra Brodio and Boreham resulted in a draw, leaving Boreham victorious in the round. Messrs Kconan and llutton have a sealed position in their first game. and Messrs Caldow and Holuen won u game each, and must continue tlio lotiml. Tito games between Messrs But'.erfield and Halliday were both won by tho latter.

Mr Robt. Boswoll.—Mr Boswell, tho tfelllinown Canterbury veteran, paid o brie! visit to Dnncdin lost woek. On arrival lie professed to be in ,poor form owing to ■want of practice, but his performance in Dnncdin did not bear this out. l£c met several of the leading players here, and made « good showing. Playing in Hilliker's saloon on tho Friday ovening he came out ahead of Mr Boreham on somo eight games plavod, lint the latter icado even 011 this by winning two out of four played in the Otago Club on Saturday evening. As Mr Boreham is quite in match-playing form, this will servo to sbov: that the northern visitor has not forgotten the skill of his younger days. The lioura of play to bo from 7.30 p.m. till 10. -No game to bo started after 9.30. Tho total amount of ontrance fees and added money io be divided in nccordanco with Hie following proportions,—the first prize to be CO, tho Fecond Do. and the third 15 per cent. Messrs Stormont, Mills, and Lewis ware appointed a Playing Committee, ' In "the Lanarkshire championship contest Alex. Inglis defeated J. Gall, and won tho title and the silver cup. In tho Glasgow championship W. Holden defeated W, S. Lambert in the . semi-final by 2 to 1 and 5 drawn. Holden now moots A. Battersby in the final. At an Eastbourne (England)' bazaar, opened by tho Duchosa of Devonshire recently, one of tho attractions was a game ot draughts with living pieces, .which was a pretty spectacle much enjoyed by tlio spectators.
