A juryman who applied for exemption from service at the Supreme Court at Ohristdliurcli this week, was (says the Lyttelton Times) excused on grounds rather different from those on.which his application was based. lie said that lie was suffering from an influenza cold, and that several employees in the establishment in which lie w«6 manager were off duty for a similar reason. " Out of consideration for your fellow-jurvmon," said Mr Justice Chanman, "you will bo'oxcused from attendance." The old. saying that dreams go by contraries was sadly proved in the death of tho young map Michael Hogan, at Rissington (says the Hawke's Bay Herald). For some, days Ilogan and his omployor's son had been carting- chaff, cach in a dray. Hogan, who was a eteady, excellent workman, told his companion to be careful, as ho had dreamt that lie had seen him with his dray capsized, and pinned down to the ground by a fallen horse. Strangely enough, an accident of the kind oocurrcd. though witliout any witness, but the mclan-. oholy event was that it happened to Hognn's dray, and that he met his death in tho way in which in his dream ho had seen another person suffer. The system is strengthened by the use of •JVXaEE'aSCBKAPBS.
