OTAGO ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

A spocial'meeting of the Otago Acelimatisafcion. Sociofcy's Council ' was held yesterday morning, tlioro being present— Jle6srs E. Ohisliolm (in tlib chair), R. 'forrest, Sinclair Thomson, ,T. Edgar, D. Ruseoll (secretary), and F. Deans (manager). A deputation from : tho Otago Anglers' Association, consisting of Messrs A."Anderson, H. J, Williams, and A. E. Jenkins, waited upon tho council to a6k that tho council take into considoration the advisableness of approaching the Harbour Board with a view ,to taking over the management of Late Logan, and conserving, tho upper waters of tho harbour with the object of increasing facilities for anglers about Dunodin; alio that the council tako 'into favourable consideration ,the necessity, of removing two anglers'. huts—one on the Pomahaka River and the other ori tho.Waipalii River—to more convenient places. The Chairman said ' that the matter of securing tho control of. Lake Logan had already been considered by the council, and lie,' as chairman; had waited on tho secretary of the Harbour. Board and discussed the matter with him. The secretary was of opinion that the projicsal would bo favourably considered, and the council intended therefore to. approach- the chairman, of tho Harbour Board and lay the matter before him.

Tho deputation having withdrawn,, it was resolved that tho executive wait upon the chairman of tho Hiulxjur Board with a view to giving effect ;to* the. wishes of tho deputation as to Lake Logan. It was also resolved that the manager inquire as to tho possibility of selling the hut at the Pomahaka, and roport as to tho probable expense of moving the hut on the Waipahi. Tho Chairman stated that the special meeting was called for the.purpose of considering tho new genera! regulations governing angling which had recently been gazetted. Tho necessity for these had arisen owing to the fact that .there ,wcro Jiow a large number of acclimatisation societies in tho colony. Some of these had gazetted no regulations, while the regulations framed by others contained provisions so* contrary to thoeo of the Fisheries Conservation Act and other acts that the Government had. found it necessary to etep in and form a set of general regulations, to apply to the whole oolony, wherever it was found that there were no regulations in force, or where the regulations as previously gazetted oould no* apply. In all ofhor cases, wboro feasible, the regulations framed fcy tho total gwenwig bjxiy wouM-

tako precedence over those .made by the Government. Hp had looked very carefully through the Government regulations whioh had recently been gazetted, and he thought they, could not be improved upon, with the exception of regulation 16, which dealt with the limitation of the catch. He would suggest, that they adopt the Government regulations in globo, with tho exception of. clause 16, in, place of which thoy might frame a t clause to the effect that tho Government" .regulation limiting tho dav'e catch yof fish did not apply in the Otago district. This clause, being a part of the local regulations, would take precedence over the Government clause, and they would thus eliminate from t.ho new regulations what was practically the only clause to which anglers took objection. After _ some - discussion tho Chairman moved in accordance with his suggestion, and tho motion was unanimously carried. Tho council then adjourned (ill 3 o'clock to-day,, when several matters connectcd with deer-stalking will be considered.
