A' STRANGE POSITION.: (Fp.ou Ous Owh" Correspondent,) ' AUCKLAND, September 4. Tho Exhibition awards trouble is, apparently- not over yet. At all events,' one photographic artist in.Auckland has'reason - to feel hurt about them. He was awarded a first, two seconds, and a third, and received a type-written copy of the awards, which showed that in 11 olasses 52 pictures wero awarded prizes or "special mention." It was reasonable enough to assume that - there were othor pictures which did riot ro- \ coive even special mention. Not seeing any 'y sign of the medal or certificates, be wrote and received' from Mr Munro a letter jstcd July 31, which said: "Mr Minson, chairman of home industries, is now distributing. -V. certificates of award, and the • medals are ••••« to ho delivered at a later stage.' A local committee had solo charge of this branch' of- the Exhibition." Still seeing no sign, - the artist wrotp again, and thon received ■ y'% this extraordinary reply, dated August 31: ■ : / # " The insufficiency of entries in this section was disappointing, and a«spceial .proviso was included in tlio prospectus providing for this position. Exhibitors were fully cognisant of tlio failure of Jhe competition, and entries were received on tho condition that prizes ■ < would bo awarded provided a. sufficient • number of entries aro' received.
