The competition for the Royal; Sydney Cup to amateurs'and, professionals alike, under handicap) was played on tho Rose Bay Links recently. . The result wm a tie between E. P. Simpson and 0. Head; -ing, with a total of 330' for the four rounds on'tho first day. Simpson led with 79— 84 : plus''2 handicap (165). Carnegie Clark (professional) was 80—78 ;plus'3 (166), and Soutcr and 'East (professionals) next with 79—82 plus 8 ' and 84—81 plus 4 (169) respectively; C. Beading,'with a handicap of 10 for the two rounds,, being next with 86—94- minus'lo (170). On tho second day •Simpson, with two rounds of 81 aiid 82 plus 2 handicap was 330 for his four, rounds. Reading, who took 90 for his third round, returned 80 in the .afternoon, and with . his ,10, handicap tied with Simpson for first place. Clark, with 80—77; plus 8, was 33 for his total. Cotton in the filial (3S holes) by 14 up and 13 to 'play His score for the second 18 holes v was : out 4,0 and in 35 (75), including a 6 at Muggeridgee. The same player also won tho olub's last monthly medal,.with a scoro of 81.

Tho final of the St. Clair Ladies' Championship was played, last week, when Mrs G-ilray defeated Miss Fotheringham. The Gore Club recently held a competition for a t'rophy presented by Messrs A. and W. M'Carthy, when Eric Scott, eon of Mr Adam Scott, ~put up a fine performance,' doing the round in 84' minus 15 (69), and tieing with Mr A. F. Grenfell,. 93 minus 24 (69). Mr Grenfell won in. the play off. ■ Tho .Professionals' . Match at Kensington (Victoria) was responsible for some fine golf. The match was two rounds, 36 holes, stroke play. There was a very strong wind blowing ail day, which mado it most unpleasant for. the spectators, and there was little wonder that somo of tho scores were high. In tho morning D. G, Soutar led with a fine round (considering the wind) of l 85, closely followed by P. Popplewell 86, Carnegie Clark 87, and Fast 88. In the .afternoon P. Popplewell,'!tie youne professional from Newcastle, jjilayed a superb game, committing scarcely a fault from start to finish. Ho drove a great leneth. his drives including some excellent "wind cheaters," his approach work was good, and ha treated the spectators to as fine an exhibition of nutting as one would ever wish to seo. The remaining competitors lost stroke after stroke, on tho green,, but not so Popplewell ; lie holed out almost every; mitt that' lie tried to get in. He finished the round with 78, which is a'competition record for itlio course. Hla total' of 564 for the two round* was easily first. V.
