MELBOURNE, August 30, (Received August 31, at. 0.35 a.m.) The question of preference between the Commonwealth and New Zealand has again been revived.. The Federal Government has been approached by the agent for the New Zealand Government with a view of ascertaining whether the Government is prepared to consider fresh, proposals.
Sir William Lyne states that he reminded the agent that 11 preference arrangement to arrived at. when Mr Seddon was alive, but that the .Government as reconstructed; afterwards did not curry tlie scheme into effect. The agent declared that, the New Zealand Government was still anxious to come to nn understanding which would be mutually bsnoficial to both countries.
Sir William Lync told him that tlie matter could not be considered in connection with, tho tariff, but' when the tariff was completed he would be prepared to go more fully into the matter. !
