At a meeting of tho New Zealand Cricket Council to-night it was reported that 10a in tho pound had boon refunded to the guarantors and affiliated associations in connection with the M.C.C. team's tour. There wa« also a balance of £365 in hand, which would bring tho amount to 13s 4d in the pound.: It was decided to take £70 from tho ordinary account and pay it to tho council's guarantors, which would rcduce the liability to tho guarantors by another 3s in the At the same meeting a circular-letter was received from tho New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association on the (.übjcct of tho elimination by legislation ' of the professional element in sport. The matter was _ discussed at length, and the general opinion was expressed that it would be extremely undesirable to have the control of sport vested entirely in amateur bodies. Delegates were appointed to attend tho forthcoming conference to be held in Wellington to consider the matter, with instructions to support proposals which woidd enable amateurs and professionals to meet tcgcthor.
