POLLARD'S JUVENILE OPERA. COMPANY. .

, A house crowded' in every part greeted the second presentation of the charming musical dream play, " Bluebell in Fairyland," by Pollard's Juvcnilo Opera Company at the Princess Theatre last evening, news ot the sue ce'-s of the first night evidently having travelled afar. The. play is one that may. be appreciated by old aiid young alike, iho spectacular effosts and the excellence of the musical, numbers being well calculated to. appeal to everyone, whilo there was not one of the danoo3 but was recalled moat omphalioalVy by the audience. The • part of Bluebell (the street flower girl)' was again capitally sustained by Miss Minnie Topping, and that of Billy (her admirer) by Master Beit Nicholson, with infinite credit t» himself. The incidental music was in the hands of a capable orchestra, under Mi E, A. Mowlc. ALHAMBRA THEATRE. i' A good-audience witnessed last night's performance .t the AJbainbra Theatre, when Dalkanie, Maud Florence, Pearl Livingstone, and others made farewell appeansneea. The other contributing artists wore all duly successful, in' their respective turns, and, associated with a number of newcomers, will appeal in the strong change of prcgramme, which is announced for this evening. An attractive feature is arlso provided in several bioscope pictures of a novel character. RAILWAY LOCOMOTIVE SMOKE CONCERT. The locomotive football team held a smoke concert in the Carlton Hotel last evening. There were about 80 members and friends present, Mr Irwin occupying the chair. The, chairman, in his opening remarks, 'said he desired to congratulate the club upon the extraordinary success which had won for them the 'Wednesday Rugby Football Banner. The club had played 31) matches during tho season, and .had won them all _ This was largely due ta the good work which the captain (Mr Muirhead) had put in. He hoped the present smoke concert would become an annual affair.—(Applause.) Mr Muirbead (club captain) replied. The • Wednesday teams, ho said, had great difficulties to contend with. The Rugby Football Union waa not wholly in sympathy with them, and their interests wcro somewhat sacrificed to thois of the Saturday teams. Then, again, the locomotive players had difficulty in getting awav to ,jlay a match, and it spake volumes ior their energy .and their interest in the club to behold the competition flag before them:—-(Applause.) Mr Scott tlw.n proposed the test of " The Locomotive Football Toam," which was drunk with musical honours, Mr T. Muirhoad responding. During the evening tho following items were rendered:—Pianoforte selection, Mr_ Leacli; comic ' song, Mr Liot jens; recitation, Mir M'Alister; violin solo, Mr J. Johnson, coon fong. Mr AY. Duff; ballad._ Mir Vr\ Brown; comic song, Mr C A. Dans; ballad, Mr C. Dereham., recitation, Mr H. Easton; humorous story, 'Mr Turnbull; song, Mt Firkin. Mr Leach acted as accompanist. Tho following toasts were also honoured:—" The King," the Chairman, " The Traffic Department," Mr J. Cameron, responded' to bv Mr C. A. Davis; "Office-bearers of the Club," Mi E. Paul, responded to by Jk J. Robertson; "Tho Visitors." M. W. Christian, acknowledged by Mr G. Wallen;, nnd " The Press." The gathering dispersed with three hearty cheers. LABOUR DAY ASSOCIATION. The celebration, ' which takes place " t-bis year at Henley, gives promise of being the best effort of the association, judging by thc way the arrangements (or their patrons' comfort and enjoyment pre being attended) to. An interesting sports programme has b?en drawn up. and is in circulation, and with such a varieiy of events-must draw largo entries. The grounds arc beine put in firttclas; cider, and the track is also being attended to. A special tain will be run, mid the time oi starting will be duly advertised, The challenge :up (valued it £' Is), for most points in the four amateur events, will no doubt caufe keen competition! T!w Labour Day Sheffield Handicap will also be an interesting, event. The return social extended to the Hornington Young Ladies' Hookey Club was hold on Thursday evening in the Trades Hall, Moray place. That a most enjoyable evening w»3 spent was the unanimous vote ot all present. The promoters of the event, as well the young ladies who inaugurated tho original social, together-with the enexgetio recretary, (Mr Schacht), were congratulated upon the bucccss which has attended their efforts, and it is hoped that the two socials will bo the forerunners of many such annual reunions. Vocal items were rendered during the evening by Messrs Mollison and M'Leod, while tho-music for the dancing, provided by Mi?s A.
