Herbert stated that tho offence had been committed about 15 months' ago, and accused had only been arrested' at the Bluff the previous night. Invln ippoared'for acousd.-On the application of Chief Detective Horbert a remand was gran-ted till Monday next, 2r.d September, bail being fixed at accused in £50 and one euroly in a like amount, or two sureties of JKS each.—Mr Irwin stated that tho bulk of_tho stolen property had been recovered, and that the lad's father was willing to become a bondsman for him. Theft of Drapery from tho Mutual Stores. William Patrick Harrington was charged .with stealing a quantity of drapery, value ■£100, tho property of tho Mutual. Stores Company (Limited)-Mr Scurr appeared for accused,, and on tho application of 'Chief! Detective Herbert a remand wae. granted til! Breaches of By-tows.-Walter John Aunrn vras fined 10s and costs for placing building material on a streetway. without keeping u light burning at night; and John Dow, for driving a vohiole in Princes street without a light, was fined 6s and costs.
