BRICKLAYERS , DEMANDS.

Tho Auckland Bricklayers' Industrial Union of Workers lias filed an application for an industrial dispute, to bo referred to tho Board of Conciliation for settlement, somn 278 interested firms being 'joined ae parties. Tho demands of tho Men include iv week's work of 47 hours, and all journeymen bricklayers to receive Is 7Jtl an hour, ■ with special rates froni timo to time, anil a. quarter to double timo for overtime and; holidays; apprentices to be indentured for . five years, and to receive lfls a week for tho first year to 40s a week for tho fifth year; v.o builder to be allowed more than two apprentices at tho trade. While on. suburban work employees want fare 3 paid both Ways, and time allowed for travelling. ' ono way, as well as for unavoidable delay .in travelling. For country work employer to pay la a d»y extra from tho time"of leaving till return, provide sleeping accommodation, and pay faro and timo for travel-' ling onoo each way. As an alternative to ■ sleeping accommodation,; employer to pay 10s a week extra. Tho usual preforenco • is also sought.

Thn Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners of Auckland hae lodged with the clerk of awards an application for an industrial dispute to bo referred to tbi' Board of Conciliation for settlement. Employers to tho number of 379 aro aekod , to bo included a.s parties to the award. Tho minimum rates of pay demanded aro Iβ! M an hour; or, for factory workers eontinu-' ously employed, except through their-own default, &?. 18s 8d a week. The number of apprentices is sought, to bo ono for fiveiy three journeymen. The wages asked for apprentices are: During the first year of approntiecshin, not lew than 7s fxl nor : week; second year. 12s oil: third, 17s fxl: ,:? fourth, 22s 6d:" fifth, 27s 5a per week. ' The demands include usual preference clauses.
