PRETORIA, August 17.' 2, ■ (Received August 18, at 4.42 p.m.) Mr Botha has given notice of motion in the Assembly in favour of the colony .acquiring the Cullinan diamond for presentation to King Edward as a token of loyalty and to commemorate the granting of responsible government.
The diamond belongs to the Premier Diamond Mining Company, and is estimated to be probably worth £1,000,000. Under the mining iaws tho Transvaal Government is already owner of one-six-teenth part of the diamond, its share being fixed at £65,000. The Progressive members in the Homo have resolved to oppose the proposed purchase on the grounds that tho time is inopportune, owing to the financial difficulties and the depression on tho Rand,
