The Waikaia dredge washed up for 2ooz 6dwt as the result of 124 hours' dredging. Tho_ machine was continuing in the middle section of, the cut, but this -week she will be moved over to the west section. Mystery Plat obtained 570z lOdwt lor 135 hours' work, Tho Kura dredge secured, aftw 137 hours' work. 28oz 2wt.

Tho Electric No. 2 will not w«sh-up until Saturday.

Tho Ettrick Gold Steam 'Company's dredge met with n mishap on Friday night la3t by which the orown of the boiler has been blistered. Tho mishap 'is .stated •to liavo been duo to tho water in the boiior being allowed to run short, This is a serious. matter for the company, which has just completed making up tho Main road at conaidsritble expense, and would in about a week or a fortnight's time have been able to liavo tested the ground. The indications when the dredge stopped wero decidedly favourable. Tho bottom was dipping and the gravel of a cemeniy nature, and it is probablo that tho dredge is near the deep run of gold which it orossed on the opposite sido of the road, and' which apparently runs across the flat. The directors have decidcd to ehdeavoiir to procure the services of the Keystor.e boring machino. which is at'pwsont at Miller's Flat, for a week to test tho ground between the dredge and tho range on the Lenger Flat, after which they propose to call shareholders together to report the result of the boring operations and to plare tho financial position of the company before them There was probably from Soz to 10oz of gold on t-lio mats when the mishap occurred. This tha dredgemaster will ondeavour to stream down by hand.

Mr H. F. Shepherd, formerly supervisor of various mines in the Thames district, is at present supervising tho Maharara Copper Mules (Limited), _ located on the Ruahine Ranges, and' a visitor to Waihi, who has just been over the property, states that a largo amount of payable ore has been exposed. Another haul of picked stone was reported from the "Waiotahi mine on Friday, tho manager (Jfr George Warne) wiring 't-o Auckland that 1201b of picked stone had been secured from No. 9 stope on the main Waiotahi lode above No. 5 level.

The manager of the Rising Sun reports:— The reef in drive going north from the winze still maintains its size and values. This drive has been discontinued for the present. Tho reef has been driven on a total distance of 33ft north and south froiu the bottom of tho winze, and maintains its size and values tho whole distance. We aro now driving a crosscut from the bottom of the winze into the hangiii" wall to cut the hanging wall branch of the reef, which should be reached in a distance of 25ft if it keeps its present underlie. Part of the week tho prospectors have been driving on the cap of the reef oil the surfaco drive north of main workings, the branch' being driven on is from two to six inches in width, and appears to be getr tiiijr wider going down. OUItAWERA MINING COMPANY. following is the report of the Ourawera Mining Company, to be submitted to shareholders at tho half-yearly meeting:— 1 " Your directors regret that tho balanco sheet now submitted Joes not show such good results as many former ones. This is accounted for by tho necessity of shilling the elevator and tables and opening a new paddcck where the bottom has proved very irregular, with fairly rich but patchy wash. The prospects at the present time are good. A considerable quantity, about 2700 ft of steel pipi n » is on trior for the renewal of ihe main pressure line. Ihis will absorb the cash on hand, so there is no immediate prospect of dividends unless tho gold returns increaso considerably.
