THE CHINA FAMINE FUND.

Sir,—As I began this fund in your paper, I feel that the time has como when I should say ono word of thanks and cea6e to trouble your columns. In tho first place, I would echo tho thanks of thousands throughout the land to yourself for the ready Tespcnse you gave for permission to appeal to tho public. Your paper was tho first of secular or religious papers to take the matter up. One almost feels that tho distinction into religious and secular is nominal whoa actions aro contrasted. Then I would ba very remiss if I did not thank your accountant for his unceasing kindness throughout tlio wholo oanipaign. .Many imagine the funds have been all Presbyterian, but in justice I must, dispel that idea. Your paper has reached many who never see a religious jiaper. The Methodists and Baptists have helped very nobly, and I have received many private contributions from them; also manv friends of tho churches in the Choral Haft and Gospel Hall havo liberally contributed. I wish heartily'to thank all these. To day I received word from China saynig that in my sister's town (Antong) 8000 men are on relief works, and that M/TO.are being fed. I personally do not think the sharpness of tho distress is over, but as contributions have almost ceased wo had better close.

I would like to say for the benefit of tho contributor signed "Charlie's Mother" that. I realised £1 for the stamps. This appeal has been a lesson—in fact, a series of lessons. Tho unexpected gavo and vice versa. The country people surpassed all 111 liberality and interest. Many ohurches m tho country contributed as churches; not nearly so largo a pcrccntago ill tho town. Some districts aro a credit to those' who are tho leaders in them. Again I would thank all who liavo had a hand in helping Christ to repeat His miracles of mejcy in China.—l am, etc. Dunedin, Juno 26. Jnq. Reid,
