The weather changed suddonly at an early hour yesterday morning, a.nd for tlio remainder of the day wils boisterous and cold. Heavy rain fell during the morning, and the high levels around the city had a coating of anon - . Our Arrowtown correspondent states that snow fell throughout Iho Lakes district on Wednesday night, tho whole of the country being covered. Up to the present time some 90 applications have been 'received by tho City Corporation from business firms in the eily for supplies of electricity for light and power purposes. Of this numbor the demands of 50 have becit complied with, meaning in some instances tho installation of both light and power. Tho remaining orders will be fulfilled as expeditiously aa possible. The 90 applications represent a. volume of electric power equal to over 1000 h.p. A meeting of tho North-East Valley Ratepayers and Householders' Association was held at Mr R. The Maori Hill Borough Council went into committee last night to consider the question of raising a loan of £1500 to widen High street 10ft, and improvements to roada and paths on St. Lconnrds-on-tho-Hill. A large boulder, apparently dislodged by the recent bad weather, broke away from the Bleep face at the rear of Messrs John Mill anil Co.'s sh'xls at Port Chalmers yesterday forenoon, and narrowly missed doing serious dainuge. In its descent tho boulder (which weighed 1 about 2cwt) struck 'an iron telephone post and broko it in two pieces, one of which tore a hole in the rear of one of the stores, whilst tho other, and larger, piece crashed into the yard, completely smashing a grindstone and also its strong wooden support. A workman who was working two or three yards away got a considerable fright when lie looked round and saw good-sized pieces of grindstone flying around promiscuously. Fortunately no further damage was done. His Honor Mr Justice Williams will sit in Chambers this morning, and will deliver judgment in the appeal caso of Tail v. Cullen.
