STRONG PROTEST FROM CANTER. BURY.

A meeting of tho oxeeutivo of tho Can. terbury Employers' Association last night, adopted resolutions expressing surprise and concern at the Arbitration Courts departure from well-established precedents, and entered a strong protest against—(l) Establishing the principle of weekly employment in the Otago felt-batters' award and tho interpretation given .in the Wellington typographers' award by which payment oil holidays is ordered, notwithstanding that a previom interpretation of tho court had dccidsd otherwise; (8) tho imposing of a, penalty on a Cishorno painter for a breach of an award which had previously been settled by the Labour Department. Tho executive considered f.uch innovations would act prejudicially to the interests of the industries of the colony; therefore they refer the matters to tho Advisory Board of ths; New Zealand Employers' Association.
