Tho ox-mayor (Mr G. Lawrence) attended last night's meeting of the City Council, and was accommodated with a chair to the Mayor's lir W. Malcolm Thomson, son of Mr G. M. Thomson, of Dunedin, has been appointed lieutenant-surgeon of the Utli Burniah ltegilnent, stationed at Mandalay. Miss Dippie. who has been appointed mistress of ttie Upper Junction School, wa9, prior to her leaving Kartigi, entertained at a social by tho committee and householders of that district, and presented with a travelling ease as a mark of esteem in winch alio was held by her many friends. Miss Dippie was leaching in tho Kartigi School for nine years and a-lialf.
