SHORTAGE OF RAILWAY TRUCKS.

At the annual meeting of the Taupiri Coal Mines Co. this afternoon the shortage of railway trucks was *cfcrr«i to. It was ' stated that the output during the past year would have bceii at. least 10,000 tons more had there been sufficient trucks. It was also stated that a petitioil to tho Minister of Railways whs being promoted asking him not. only that more waggons bo provided, but also that, engines, of larger sizo be employed <-n the Waikato line, it
being asserted that tho present engines ; could not bring full loads up.some of tho steep grades between - Mercer and Auck- ,\v? land. A shareholder asltefc whether tha directors had considered the question of providing their own' trucks, but it was '\, explained that the Government' did noi '$ allow 1 this to .be done.
