DRAINAGE BOARD REPORTS.
The following are tho principal clauses in tlio reports to bo presented to the Drainage trad Sewerage Board at its meeting to-inorrow evening:— 1
' Tlie Finance Committee will report that in accordance with section 54 of its 1900 act, the board determined' that the drainage into for the Borough of North-East Valley should bo made, levied, and collected by tho North-east Valley Borough Council. Tho suction provides that tho coat and expenses iu connection with tho recovering of tho rates shall be retained by. tho council. Before taking office the members of tho council are required to declare that they will faithfully arid impartially exccutc the powers vested' in them, and, aa tho council does not Gee its way t-Q carry out the statutory obligations impoEeS on it, your committee recotirmcjnda that, if it refuses on further application to take steps to recover outstanding rates, tho board should not in future, delegate the collecting of the drainage rato to the North-east Valley Borough .Council, but attcml to the matter itself. This, of course, will necessitate tho rates being paid at tho Town Hall, and will be by 110 moans so convenient for the ratepayers of the Morth-East Valley Borough 08 ■the present method. Tho passbooks were laid on the table, showing credits: Aggregate fund, £4559 lis 3d; trust account, £320 4a id. Accounts amounting to £119 7s 2d ; were examined and pawed for payment, and ohequcs signed. ,
Tho'Works Committee will report:—Reticulatioa of Kensington: The tender of Messrs Shaw and Richardson has been aoeopted, Drains near Caversham affected by tho Dune din-Mo3gial railway duplication: Tile engineer has been authorised to interview Mr HacLean and report. New works: The engineer has been authorised to invito tenders for the reticulation of portion of Russell, Arthur, and' Canongate streets, and the reticulation of portion of Athol place. Filling in natural watercourses: Your committee has again todraw attention to the fact that no watercourse in tho drainage-district, either on private or other property, may he interfered with with- ■ out provision first being made to tho satis-, faction of .tho drainage engineer for the disposal qf storm water. Sanitary standard: Further, with reference to the board's approval of the use of galvanised iron or plainish copper cisternß, your committee recommends that all cisterns be inspected and passed before •they are put into place. Tho necessary tasting appliances are at the board's yard,, Kensington, and the cisterns may be submitted in quantities to be tested 1 and marked. A fee of 3d to be charged for each cistern tested, This testing is in accordance with the practice of other drainage boards.
