In the House of Commons Mr R. Balfour's Local Option (Scotland) Bill was read a second time by 251 to 95, and referred to a committee. ' .
Tho Housc of Commons adopted 011 April 10. 1900, by 271 to 44, 11. resolution in favour of local option in thes? terms: —
"That this House notes with satisfaction the successful working of MlO local option laws in the colonies, and approves the principle on which these laws are based— namely, that the people ought, to possess the power, through a vote of tho local electors, to protect, themselves against' the admitted evils of the liquor traffic."
