The coal lumpers havo issued art nppe.il to the uniouists of Australia asking for their sympathy and moral assistance, and wging (Item ito do their utmost- in preventing such an influx of labourers ns might, enable the employers to succeed in their desire to crush the union.
- Delegates from the Lumpers' Union attended the Labour Council, and explained •the position. They stated that the only obstacle in the way of a settlement was tho removal of the stevedores' foreman, to whom the lumpers object. The council offered the services of their executive officers Tvith a view to bringing about all early settlement.-
(Received April 26, at 11.48 p.m.) Tho coal lumpers' ultimatum that they would not. take any part. in. a. conference with a view to a settlement of the strike unless the stevedores' foreman was dismissed lias had no effect, on the attitudeof the employers, who express a determination to stand firm. They declare that tho labour obtained through tho bureau in conjunction with the ships' crews is Sufficient for requirements. Tho delegates of the Seamen's Union Conferred -with the Employers Association -in reference to the situation. The result has not been disclosed, but -it is reported that tho local unions, which have been approached by the strikers, show little sympathy as tothe extension of the difficulty. Tho strikers relax none of their vigilance or confidence. Tho picketing system is very complete. !
