TKfelkald, the well-known sheep and cattle breeder, of Inglewood, Flaxton, died on Tuesday; agod 75 years. A telegram from Hokitika, states that the election for the new Harbour Board resulted in tho return of Dr TeichelnMiiu, Messrs G. Perry and W. Baxier. Mr T. K. Hcrty has accepted the position of secretary of tho local branch of the Navv League, which Mr J. A. Johnstone found it necessary to resign in consequence of his projected visit to England. Mr William Ferguson, engineer and secretary to the Wellington Harbour Board, accompanied by Mr John Mill, paid a- visit to the new dock at Fort Chalmers yesterday afternoon. The Hon. 11. F. Wigram, M.L.C., returned 'fi Dunedin lust night from Wonaka, where ho hits been deer-stalking for tho last tortnight. with great success. He brought back three magnificent heads. An Auckland V.cgrnm ainios that JL Jullien, Governor of Tahiti, arrived in Auckland yesterday by the Manapouri, en rouie to France. Ho will be absent fov about six months. M. .Tnllicn is accompanied by Mme. and Jld'lc. Jullien. They will visit lioiorua beforo - leaving l by the Mokoia for Sydney. Mr B. E. Murphy, M.A., will lecture on nrantal science at Victoria College, Wellington, during the absence of Mr 1\ A. Hunter, M.A., M.Sc., who is at present away on furlough. Both Mr Hunter and his locum tenen9 are graduates of tho University of Olago, and received their preliminary education in the subject under Dr Salmond. Mr Donald M'Rae. who has b?on mine host of the Shamrock Hotel at Ophir, for' some time, has sold his interest to Mr AY. C. Pitches, and has taken the Bannockbum itot-c!. At a- fiilly-aUended meeting of Hie HilUMa Library Committer on Wednesday evening, it was resolved— 1 " That this meeting desires to place on record its appreciation of the many services rendered to the Hillside Railway Wcrkshous library by the late president (Mr G. h. Richardson) during his terra as manager ot the workshops."
