HOSLYS METHODIST CHURCH.
The congregation of the Roslyn Methodist Church held a couvorsaziono iu tho Wakari Hull on Wednesday evening for tho doublo purpose of entertaining the Rev. A. N. Scotter, who proceeds to Auckland, and also of celebrating tho twonty-ninth anniversary of the church. Mr W. C. Allnutt .presided. An excellent musical programmo was contributed to by the following:—Mrs Monkman Dempster, Mr J. Paterson, Mr T. Hoigate, Mrs Heath, Mrs Butcher, Mr CV 1 Beath, Mirg Sunderland, and Mr Robertson. Tho accompanists for the evening were Miss Ina Fea, A.T.0.L., and Miss Freeman. 'Hie church reports' and balanco sheet wcro read by tho Church Stewards (Messrs W. Morrison and H. Wilkinson). Mr Wilkinson anriounoed that the mcmbenship of the Sunday sohool had remained about the same as last year. Mr Sandford was to, be thanked for his untiring zeal in carrying out his duties as class loader for tho past five years. The total ineomo lor tho year was £254: lis lid, and the expenditure £250 IC\; sd. They had started tho year with a debt of £30 7s 7d, and had reducod that, debt by £4 Is 6d. The roll showed that thoy possessed 177 scholars. The Senior Church .Endeavour Society had done good work, had gained eight now .members, their total boing 45 notivo and five associate members. The gooiety had supported the missionary work, and had 6ubsoril)cd £3 for tho support of a native student. During tho .year £19 18s E<l bad boon raised for home and foreign missions, and their thanks woro duo tho Rovs. Mr Trestrail and Mr Dooley for their lectures on (whalf of this cause. Thoy heartily thanked the Rev. Mr Scottcr for tho ready and able manner in which ho had ministered to tho circuit, and thoy wished him God-speed in his new sphere of labour. Mr Morrison announced that the total credit balanco of the church was £49 14s Bd. In connection with the Sunday school, a very necessary work would have to bo put in hand shortly. Suitable accommodation would have to bo provided for the superintendent and tcachors. At the present time the teaching staff wcro 'hampered very much by the small hall. Ho would like to thank Mr Sco.tt and his staff of teaohew for their untiring zeal and conscicntious efforts. Tho Ladies' Guild continued £o do good work. Something liko £12 had been handed over to tho Church ami Parsonage Fund during tho ypar. In conclusion, ho would like to acknowledge the services of Mr Scotter, and to thank him for his advice and counsel. Tho trustees, at their lart meeting, hadpassed tho following resolution That as this is tho last occasion on which tho Rev. A. N. Scotter will preside at'the trustees' meeting, thoy placo on rccord their high" appreciation of and thanks for his services, and for the impartial manner in which ho conducts] all meetings." Mr Allnutt, on behalf of tho congregation, then presented Mr Scotter witli three volumes, entitled "Tho Dictionary of the Bible." Rev. Mr Scotter, in reply, returned hearty thanks for tho present, and for tho expressions of estocm and love. Rev. 0. H. Laws also spoko enthusiastically of i.lio gu.cst. . Tho Indies who superintended tho socialproceedings were Mosdamos Morrison, Allnutt, Fen, and Wilkinson, and Mrs Monkman Dempster and Mr 6. Heath arc deserving special thanks for their contributions.
