DEATH OF A NEW ZEALANDER.
PECULIAR INCIDENT IN FIJI. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 11. Tho Fiji Times of March 30 comments on the filet tint a passenger from New Zealand per Mouri was removed to tho lunatic asylum instead of tlio hospital when lie required medical aid, and says: "Tho man referred to was suffering from delirium tremens, possibly caused ■by a stoppage of his liquor on the voyage. The Union Company notified the local police authorities that the man was temporarily depressed in mind, and that it wished him removed. The police endeavoured to have him taken to the colonial hospital for treatment, but the chief medical officer refused admission to the unfortunate man. He was taken to tlie lunatic asylum, and was removed to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon, where ho died a few hours later. On the request of bis fellow-passengers, Dr Fox v;as called in to examine the patient when on tho steamer, and ho issued a certificate that the man had no right to ho taken to the asylum hut urgently required medical aid. Deceased was about 40 years of age, and leaves a wife at Chrisfchureh. He was described as one of the elevcrcst veterinary surgeons in New Zealand."
