TROUBLE AT A COUNCIL MEETING.
• ■ AN EXCITING. SCENE. (Per United £p.kss Association.) • . WELLINGTON, April 10. The transfer of Wadcstown from Onslow Borough lo Wellington City has nnt been accomplished without some turmoil. Certain technicalities are still uncompleted, but when tho Onslow Borough Council met tonight the two Wadcstown members (Messrs Nash and Larkiu) found that the other members had closed up on I heir scats, and the. Mayor (Mr R. B. Williams) ruled that they were- not councillors. They protested hotly against- what they called the disfranchikriicnL of Wadestown,. and 11 violent scene occurred.' They resented being called out, and when the Mayor threatened to summon tho/police they defied him to do so. The Mayor: I'll pivo you five minutes. Whore- is tho telephone list? Mr Nash: Give ns 10 minulce, if you like. You can't shift us. The Mayor: You arc what would he characterised in lav/ as a public nuisance, and possibly as a justice of the peace I could hand you over to tho police. Mr Larkin: It would cost you more than you tiro worth if you did. Mr Nash: I will consult my solicitor.. The council then went, into committee, and the Wndestown members withdrew. 'It is understood that mattors of finance affecting both Onslow ond Wadcstown wero on for discussion, and tho order paper contained a notice- of motion by Mr Larkin to rescind a recent resolution granting the Mayor an honorarium. Mr Nash threatens to applv for a caveat, and contends that he is in office (ill the 21lh inst.
