Tho Canterbury Centvo of tho New Zealand Amateur Athletio Association last night declined permission to tho Christehuich Cjolinpr and Motor Club to placo throo amateur running events on tho Good Fndav programme. Tho secretary had fold tho eeoretftiy of the Motor Club that permission would piobably bo granted, and on the strength of tlu« (lie events h<ul boon advertised. In tho courso of tho discussion on the motion to giant iiormiseion, strong objection was urged to any spoils being held on Good Friday, which tho chaiiman said na? tho holiest'day in tho J oar. The \oting was five against permission being guntod and tluco in favour of tho application.
