RESIGNATION OF THE CITY ELECTRICAL ENGINEER.

MR. GOODIIAX riIOCEEDS TO ADELAIDE. Sir W, 0. T. Goodman, cily electrical engineer, Ims received advice tliat he lias been, appointed elcctrical engineer to tho Municipal Tramways Trust. Adelaide, South Australia, jwul'yostorchiy afternoon officially notified tho Mayor of the appointment, anil intimated his dosire to be relieved cf hia Dunedin duties sa that he may ho in a position to take up his new responsibilities within two months from date. A letter expressing I hi.-, clesiro will bo .forwarded to tho City Council for consideration at its meeting to-morrow evening. Mr Goodman camo to Dunedin in May, 1900, for tho purpose of installing tho Roslyn tramway, which was tho first, elect rio tramway line in New Zealand. Later on ho was instructed to prepare plans and report on the electrification of tho Dunedin tramways, and subsequently, when tho firm which Mr Goodman represented (Messrs Kojes Bros.) was instructed to proceed with this work, ho carried out tho designing and installation of 21 miles of single track. More recently, when Messrs Noycs Bros, were appointed to carry out the Waipori hydroelectric scheme, Mr Goodman w<is entrusted with the designing and installation of the oicctrie part of t|jo work. 11l conversation with one of our representatives yesterday, Mr Goodman stated that he was very much gratified at receiving tho South Australian position, moro particularly as the appointment is tho unanimous verdict of the members of the trust, and has been awarded to him in competition with electrical experts in Europe and Australasia. Tho salary attaching to tho position is £1250 per annum, and the duties are to design f.nd prepare plans and specifications for the electric installation of 75 miles of tramways. Tho appointment will probably carry with it the electrification of some suburban lines of railway, and may include tho designing of a pov;or transmission Bcliome, as it is possible tho power station will be situated at Port- Adelaide. which is a few miles distant from the city. Tho work, Mr Goodman 6tatcs, is the most important from an electrical engineering standpoint in Australasia, and may involve a capital expenditure of a million and a-quar-tor of money. The electrical engineer has; received numerous congratulatory cables and telegrams from Australasia, also a similar message from England.
