Our Oaroarn correspondent wired last evening:—"Tho death is announced to-night of Mr Thomas Forrester, who was for many years

Tho presentation took tho shape of a handromelyengraved silver cakedish, and the Rev. G. Heighway and other speakers, in asking her acceptance of it, conveyed to her the very best wishes of the gathering. Mr W. J. ti rigor, who lias been second auctioneer to the National Mortgage and Agency Company's Timaru office for f.oma years, has been promoted to take charge of the company's Waimate branch, in place of Mr C. Guthrie, who comes to Dunedin to t-nko charge of the auctioneering department here. . At the sitting of the Police Court yesterday morning Mr M. Fraer, one of the presiding justices, referred to the departure of Mr James Steiihouse. clcrk of the court, to fill a position in Hokitika. Mr Fraer said he desired to endorse the complimentary remarks which Mr Moller, J.P., had made about Mr Stenhonse on Saturday. He had known Mr Stenhouso for some time, and could speak only in the highest terms of his services. He was very pleased to hear of his promotion, although ho was sorry to lose him from Dunediu.
